A new technique for increasing the stability of functional glass substrates

Glass surfaces are very frequently used as supports for biomolecules in a wide range of analyses. Glass is cheap and widely available and has important physical and chemical properties at the experimental level. However, the conventional techniques used to prepare the glass surface often result in a significant loss of biomolecules and therefore a loss of assay signal.

Using in situ photolitographic synthesis of complex DNA arrays, Gisela, Mark and colleagues demonstrate the usefulness of this new technique – which uses dipodal silanes – to reduce DNA loss.
