Deliverable D5.4 Socioeconomic analysis of animal-to-recombinant transformation

This deliverable examines the transition from animal-derived to recombinant biomolecular binders, analysing the societal, technological, economic and financial factors shaping this innovation in DNA engineering. It explores potential applications, knowledge transfer and collaborations between universities, research centres and industry, highlighting the benefits and challenges of recombinant technology, including reproducibility, cost-effectiveness, biological material sensitivity and ethical concerns.

The analysis emphasises the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, industry and public institutions in fostering responsible innovation and strengthening the recombinant DNA ecosystem in Europe.
