As we recently announced, BioAssembler is collaborating with visual artist and performer Andrea Inocencio. In June, she went to Finland and visited the laboratories and facilities of our partners VTT and Biomensio, where she could have an in-person look at the work of our researchers.
BioAssembler focuses on developing innovations in biosensor manufacturing but also seeks to articulate different types of knowledge to reflect on biosensing technologies and the broader impact of the novelties our research is proposing to the field. The art-science dialogue is one of the ways of putting this into practice.
During her visit to Finland, Andrea had the opportunity to meet with teams from VTT and Biomensio, who presented their ongoing projects and explained science behind their work on biosensors. This sort of ‘intensive course’ was an interesting learning process for the artist: “Throughout my visit, I’ve been trying to decode the information I’ve received through associations, such as with puzzles or musical instruments,” she says.
In case you are wondering what will be the outcome of this encounter, the idea is that the art-science collaboration becomes a bridge for communication with society. For now, the artist has been working on ideas for the next phases of the residency, which will culminate in an artistic product that will be presented publicly.
The presentation is currently in the preparation phase, so we can’t reveal too many details, at the moment.
However, here’s a sneak peek of what Andrea has been working on.
